How Light Travels

Grade 1 · Science · Sound and Light · Manitoba, Canada

Lesson Summary

Discover that light travels in straight lines.

Explanation

Light moves in straight lines called rays. That is why you can see a beam of light coming through a window. Light cannot bend around corners on its own. When light hits something it cannot pass through, it stops and makes a shadow on the other side. You can test this by shining a flashlight at a wall — the light goes straight from the flashlight to the wall.
