Theme of a Story
The theme is the big message or lesson an author wants you to take away from a story. It is not the same as the topic.
Character Traits
Character traits describe what a person in a story is like on the inside. You can figure them out by looking at what characters say, do, and think.
Comparing Texts
When you compare two texts, you look for ways they are alike and different. You might compare their topics, themes, or the way the authors present information.
Text Structure
Text structure is the way an author organizes information. Common structures include cause and effect, compare and contrast, problem and solution, and sequence.
Drawing Conclusions
Drawing a conclusion means using clues from the text plus what you already know to figure out something the author did not say directly.
