A compound sentence combines two complete sentences using a coordinating conjunction like 'and,' 'but,' or 'so.' Put a comma before the conjunction: 'I like soccer, and my brother likes basketball.' Be careful not to write run-on sentences, which are two complete thoughts stuck together without proper punctuation.
