Explanation
Sometimes when you add the ones, you get a number bigger than 9. For example, in 27 + 15, the ones are 7 + 5 = 12. You can't put 12 in the ones place, so you write the 2 in the ones place and carry the 1 over to the tens. Then add the tens: 2 + 1 + 1 = 4. The answer is 42. This carrying step is called regrouping.
